About
My name is Allan, I am 182cm tall, weigh 68kg and ... wait, letme try again
My favorite color is blue ... that's not quite right...
I attend this thing called a "university", not a very flattering description in my opinion...
I enjoy going out for walks, good conversations, and reading. Some books that changed my perspective in the past while:
- The Omnivore's Dilemma
- Siddhartha
- The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius
- Steppenwolfe
- The Budda Said...
- The Journey to the East
- The Glass Bead Game
- The Tao Te Ching
- Skin in the Game
- Antifragile
- The Black Swan
- The Tartar Steppe
- Fooled by Randomness
- The Bed of Procrustes
- The Germ Theory of Management
- The Open Society
And loads of fantasy fiction, light novels and manga that didn't quite cut it (although the last good one I read was The Will of the Many)
How about work? I have some experience in compilers, GPUs, GPU compilers and machine learning. I worked on a machine learning compiler targeting deep learning models, I've worked on a machine learning system (self-driving) that and used compilers and GPU programming to speed it up. I developed custom GPU kernel libraries for a key module (sparse-convolution for the LiDAR backbone). Visualization tools for debugging training instability. And solving training instability issues, delivering better metrics...
I'm beginning to enjoy programming again, because I'm re-discovering, to quote Fred Brooks: "Programming then is fun because it gratifies creative longings built deep within us and delights sensibilities we have in common with all men."
And as Nicholas Nassim Taleb says: "You will be civilized on the day you can spend a long period doing nothing, learning nothing, and improving nothing, without feeling the slightest amount of guilt."
Back to home.
